Criminal Law Niveau Award

Niveau Award for Book about Criminal Law
The college textbook in Criminal Law, written by Dr. Gellér Balázs, professor and head of the Criminal Law Department at ELTE ÁJK, and Dr. Ambrus István, senior lecturer for the Criminal Law Department at ELTE ÁJK, was published in 2019 by ELTE Eötvös Kiadó.
First, it must be emphasized that the Criminal Law Department at ELTE ÁJK has not had its own college textbook in substantive criminal law for decades. Therefore, ever since the publication of the textbook, students of ELTE ÁJK have finally been able to study the principles of the ELTE Criminal Law School.
It should be noted that the textbook, which is nearly five hundred pages long, wasn’t written only for university students. According to the authors, it is also intended for those applying the law: lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and judges of the Constitutional Court.
The Permanent Committee of Nívódíj, at ELTE ÁJK, has recently decided to award the Nívódíj award to the authors of the book – in honour of the book’s significance.
According to the Permanent Committee of Nívódíj, “the textbook is prominent, containing an up-to-date store of information, and can also be used by those in other areas of criminal law”. The Nívódíj award will be presented on the 6th of September 2021 at Aula Magna, ELTE ÁJK.
Name of the book: Gellér Balázs – Ambrus István: The Principles of Hungarian Criminal Law I. 2nd edited, revised edition, ELTE Eötvös Kiadó, Budapest, 2019.
